Village to press DNR for annexation
Going to "battle" against a monolithic governmental body like the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) can be daunting, but Poynette officials are not backing down in their attempt to remove hunting from some DNR lands near residences and school grounds.

Columbia County Sheriff candidate questionnaires
Dan Garrigan, Brian Landers and incumbent Dennis Richards - all Republicans - will face off in the Sept. 14 partisan primary for Columbia County Sheriff.

The winner of the primary is all but assured victory in the Nov. 2 general election, as no Democratic candidates are running.

Hungerford keeps on quilting
When Janet Hungerford of Poynette suffered paralysis in her left hand in 2006, it became difficult for her to do many things, including quilting, one of her loves.

Alzheimer's walk is Sunday in Portage
Anyone struggling with the effects of Alzheimers, or watching a friend of family member battle the disease knows how debilitating and life-changing it can be. On Sunday, Sept. 12, people have a chance to fight back, and help raise money and awareness about Alzheimer's during the Fourth Annual Columbia County Alzheimer's Walk in Portage.

District to get federal funding

Questions raised about 'street dance'
Concerns are rising on a planned street dance to be held following the Poynette High School homecoming football game on Sept. 24. The Poynette Athletic Booster Club wants to use the event as a fundraiser, and Poynette trustees approved use of Pauquette Park last week.
